Conclusion
After researching these specific events, one would think that the world was in turmoil. Actually, there are always events like this taking place. The world is very large and complete peace will never exist. Compared to other time periods, 1981 was a cold year. Ronald Reagan's first year as president saw a somewhat calm and transitional period in the United States. In other countries as in Libya, Sweden and Iran, these events were a much bigger deal to the citizens of those countries, but to us it was just typical news. For the United States, the freedom of the hostages was a heroic and uplifting event. It created a camaraderie in our country. It made all of the other tragic events in other parts of the world seem tame. Overall the year 1981 was a cooling year.
