Introduction

Throughout the entire cold war many events transpired. Some were intense and increased the tension surrounding but others calmed the following situations to come after them. In the year 1981 four main events occurred Ronald Reagan's inauguration, Iran hostages were released, the Gulf of Sidra incident and the Soviet submarine crashing. These occurrences all determined the outcome of the future years ahead. Was year 1981 hot or cold?
